          We are Anca and Catalin Cituran and we would like to draw your attention to an older discovery of ours: Olanesti Baths town- resort. We have both been passionate Geography teachers for more than six years, but our passion for travelling has deeper roots, as a proof we have continued our graduate studies in tourism, being MAs in Tourism and Regional Development. During all this time, we have travelled around the country far and wide, but nowhere have we felt a greater attraction than in this Valcea area of the Olt Valley and its surroundings

         In our previous and current studies, we could notice both directly and by comparison the fact that Olanesti Baths resort possesses a fantastic touristic potential , which is made use of to a great extent

         The presence of the mineral springs gives spa valence to the resort, and the mild climate favours the watering and climate treatment. In 1873, the resort received the Gold medal in Vienna for its “extraordinary” waters, as the chemist Bernath Lendway called them. So, in 1922, the first mineral springs intake started.

         From the studies made there, I have noticed that most tourists who come to Olanesti resort are interested in the healing properties of the  mineral springs, which are more than 35.This fact places the resort on the first place in the country as to the number of springs, and their diverse composition and concentration give the possibility of a wide range of illness treatments: digestive diseases, metabolism diseases, kidney and urinary tract diseases, dermatological affections, rheumatism, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular and gynecological diseases.rn

         The treatments are made in modern units and they have a prophylactic, curative and recovering purpose by means of internal cure (3- 6 cupfuls of water per day), external cure (baths) or climate- therapy. All these are completed by ultramodern machineries for ultrasounds, paraffin, ultra violets  and so on. The treatments are recommended and made by highly trained medical staff. In some hotels, there are bars supplied with mineral water 6 times a day. For the external treatment, there are modern and professional procedures: underwater showers, plant baths, paraffin wrappings, injections with mineral water, kinetic-therapy, thermo- therapy and so on. Besides all these, the patients can release stress by going for a walk in the open air.

         The treatment and healing tourism is completed by other forms of tourism: business, pastimes (mountains, adventure), cultural (history, architecture, religion, ethnography), entertainment.

          For nature lovers, we recommend:

-the yew tree reservation along the Cheia spring;

- Stogu natural reservation in Buila- Vanturarita massif, a complex reservation;

- Radita- Manzu reservation in the Capatanii mountains;

- The Cave with a Lake;

- The Cave with Pearls;

- The Bell Cave;

- Munteanu- Mungoci Cave.

         Those who are interested in cultural tourism can visit Anton Pann’ s memorial house; the chain of monasteries in the area: Frasinei Monastery, Horea’ s church (a wooden architectural masterpiece), Bradu  Hermitage, Iezer Hermitage and so on. For those who are in good shape and feel like entertainment and adventure, there are mountain tracks in Vanturatita massif, but pay attention to vipers!

         The resort offers a wide range of accommodation forms, from 2 to 4 stars hotels to hostels and villas, also from 2 to 4 stars. The balance between price and quality is fair, the fees varying from 70 to 160 RON per person- double hotel room and from 70 to 150 RON double hostel and touristic villas room. Among the accommodation units recommended mention should be made of: Olanesti Hotel, Livadia Hotel,Central Hotel, Europa Mansion, Noel Mansion and so on.

          The geographical position is favorable as regards the touristic accessibility. The road access can be made on E7 Bucharest- Rm. Valcea and from here on DN64A towars Olanesti, on DN 67- Drobeta Turnu Severin- Rm. Valcea, then DN 64A, DN 73C- Campulung- Rm. Valcea (then DN 64A), DN64- Craiova- Rm. Valcea (then DN 64A). By train, one can get to Ramnicu Valcea station via Piatra Olt, and from here several buses leave for the resort at regular intervals.

        From our conversations with the tourists and our personal impressions, we can assure you of the staff’ s high level of training and professionalism, as well as of the local people’ s hospitable nature.

         So….

                                                Let’ s bathe!
